Sitting duck

This metaphor for the defenseless customers stems from the use of wooden ducks in hunting. A decoy duck attracts live ones, where they are eventually gunned down without a chance to escape. Are your customers ever at your mercy?

Ugly Duckling says:

You can gun this duck down only once
but save my butt and I will trust you for a lifetime!

At no point is the urge for instant gratification bigger than in situations where customers are at your mercy. And at no time is it more detrimental to your best interests to take advantage of this. Not only will your victim feel cheated (and rightly so), but you have just blown a great opportunity for prolonged and profitable 'easy' business.

Being remarkable is about exceeding expectations. The next time someone needs a favor or something that is not on the menu, consider cutting him or her some slack. Not because they should owe you something (guilt has never improved a relationship) but because it shows you care about the relationship - first.

Won't this be taken as a sign of weakness? Whenever I get a reaction that starts with a negation like "Won't this..." or "Isn't this...", I don't hear a question, but rather an opinion. It is what the person asking the question thinks! So "What do you think?
